Bhutan's entry requirements are straightforward but non-negotiable — nothing here is optional paperwork you can skip.
1. Passport
Valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates, with at least one blank page.
2. Visa (for most nationalities)
All foreign nationals except Indian, Bangladeshi and Maldivian citizens need a visa, arranged in advance — Bhutan does not issue visas on arrival for most travellers. See our visa information page for the process.
3. Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)
A daily fee charged to most international visitors, used to fund free healthcare, education, and environmental conservation. Regional visitors (India, Bangladesh, Maldives) pay a separate, lower rate. Full detail on our SDF page.
4. A licensed local operator

5. For Indian nationals
Indian citizens need a valid passport (or voter ID card for land entry) but not a formal visa, and pay a significantly reduced SDF rate. Entry permits are still processed through your operator.
Health
No mandatory vaccinations are currently required for entry, though routine vaccinations and travel-health advice from your own doctor are sensible before any international trip. Always check current requirements with your operator close to departure, since health and entry rules can change.
