The Legend: According to local lore, Guru Padmasambhava (the 8th-century Buddhist master who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan) flew to this exact spot from Tibet on the back of a miraculous tigress. He then meditated in a cave here for three years, three months, three weeks, and three days to tame local demons. The Experience: The monastery was officially built around that sacred cave in 1692. To get there today, visitors take a beautiful but challenging.

  • Go for Hot stone bath Self Paid Option. The Stones: Local river stones (usually rich in minerals like iron) are heated in an open wood fire until they are glowing white-hot.
